Prenatal Guideline
Consultation available 24 hours per day from OB on-call at 925-370-5608 or via page/amion, via inbasket to OB dept member or by calling Perinatologist at 510-444-0790 during the day and 510-204-1572 after hours.
Consultation appointments or transfer of care to more experienced prenatal clinician available at major clinics sites—see consultation guidelines for more information.
Contra Costa County Patients appropriate for a planned Alta Bates Medical Center delivery include:
1. Any fetus with a planned or unintended delivery < 34 weeks EGA. Indications for delivery before 34 weeks include severe preeclampsia and monoamniotic twin gestation.
2. Any pregnancy with an anticipated fetus < 1800gms
3. Any pregnancy with an anticipated fetal anomaly that requires specialized services during the initial hospitalization. Discuss with pediatrics at CCRMC if uncertain.
4. Need for specialized surgical or ICU services for the mother including dialysis, ICU cardiac services (some of these patients may be referred to UCSF or Stanford), or possible placenta accreta.
If you have a patient at high risk for preterm delivery, it is reasonable to have them go to ABMC from WCHC for triage if they have significant signs of PTL. Generally, preterm triage visits should be at CCRMC.
Advise all patients over 20 weeks not to go to Kaiser Richmond, Doctor's Medical Center, or John Muir Concord campus as none of these sites have obstetric services.
To discuss a planned delivery at ABMC call EBPMA at 510-444-0790 or call Labor and Delivery at ABMC and ask for the Perinatologist on-call at 510-204-1572. If you think the patient should have a planned delivery or be transferred directly to John Muir Hospital, call Diablo Valley Perinatology at 925 891-9033 24 hours a day.
Additionally, patients can be seen in consultation with the question about best location for delivery by a Perinatologist from EBPMA in "High Risk Pregnancy" consultation clinics on the 2nd and 4th Wed in PHC, the 4th Wed in MTZ and the 3rd Tues at WCHC.
